What areas do you cover?

We are based in Pontypool and cover Cwmbran, Newport, Cardiff, Bridgend, Abergavenny, Ebbw Vale, Merthyr Tydfil and the surrounding South Wales areas. If you are not sure whether you are within our patch, give us a call on 07714 678 344 and we will let you know.

How long have you been trading?

Edwards Electrical was founded in 2020 by managing director Dan Edwards, who learned his trade on large commercial projects before setting up on his own. Dan now leads a small, qualified team covering domestic and commercial work across South Wales.

Are you qualified electricians?

Yes. All of our work is carried out by qualified electricians, and every job is tested and certified on completion. We treat your property with care and leave you with the paperwork for your records.

What are your working hours?

Our standard hours are Monday to Friday 07:30 to 16:30, with Saturday visits from 09:00 to 14:00. We also offer 24 hour callouts for genuine electrical emergencies, so if something urgent happens you can still reach us.

Do you cover domestic and commercial work?

Yes. We work on domestic, commercial and industrial electrical projects across South Wales. Whether it is a single EV charger at home or a larger commercial job, we bring the same standards and organisation to every project.

How long does an EV charger installation take?

Most home EV charger installations take between four and six hours, depending on your property layout and building fabric. We survey the route from your board to where you park before we start, so we can give you an accurate timescale and price up front.

How much does an EV charger cost to install?

Our EV charger installations typically range from £999 to £1,299 supplied and fitted. The exact price depends on the unit you choose and the length and complexity of the cable run. We will confirm a fixed price after a quick survey.

Can you fit a charger for any electric vehicle?

Yes. We fit chargers suitable for all makes of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, in both tethered and untethered forms. We will help you choose a unit that suits your car and the way you use it.

Will my electrics support an EV charger?

In most homes, yes. As part of the survey we check your supply and consumer unit to make sure everything is suitable, and we fit all the protective devices a safe installation needs. If any additional work is needed, we will explain it clearly before we begin.

Do you tidy the cable runs?

Yes. We plan cable routes to be as neat and discreet as possible, mount the charger securely, and leave everything clean and tidy. Looking after your property and its appearance is part of the job for us.

How long is the power off during a consumer unit upgrade?

A typical consumer unit upgrade takes around three to four hours including testing, and the power is off for part of that time. We plan the work with you beforehand so you know what to expect and can keep any disruption to a minimum.

How much does a consumer unit upgrade cost?

Consumer unit upgrades usually cost between £699 and £899 supplied and fitted. The price depends on the size of your installation and the condition of the existing wiring, which we always check before quoting.

Why should I upgrade my consumer unit?

An older board may not offer the protection modern wiring regulations expect. A new consumer unit gives every circuit its own protection and adds RCD protection against electric shock, making your whole installation safer and more reliable.

Do you test the installation as well?

Yes. We test the existing installation before we start so there are no surprises, then carry out full testing on every circuit once the new board is live. You receive a certificate confirming the work when we finish.

Will you label the new board?

Yes. We label every circuit clearly on the new board so you always know what each switch controls. It is a small detail, but it makes a real difference if you ever need to isolate a circuit.

How long does a rewire take?

Rewires vary depending on the size of the property. Smaller properties usually take three to four days, while larger properties take four to five days. We give you a clear timescale as part of your quote so you can plan around the work.

How much does a full rewire cost?

A full or partial rewire typically costs between £3,499 and £6,999 depending on the size of the property and what the job involves. We look at the property and agree the scope with you before giving a fixed idea of cost.

Do I need a full rewire or a partial one?

It depends on the age and condition of your existing wiring. Some properties need a complete rewire, while others only need certain areas updated. We assess the installation honestly and recommend only the work that is actually needed.

Will a rewire make a lot of mess?

A rewire is disruptive by nature, but we keep it under control. We protect your floors and furniture, work in a planned order, and clean up thoroughly at the end of each day. We look after people's homes as if they were our own.

Do you replace the consumer unit during a rewire?

Where needed, yes. A rewire is the ideal time to fit a new consumer unit, and we include it as part of the work when the existing board is not up to standard. Everything is tested and certified once the rewire is complete.
